Posterior Crowns
For caps that cover teeth in the posterior (back) of your mouth, we use very strong materials like zirconia. Other metal materials like stainless steel and gold can be made available, but patients usually prefer zirconia because it resembles the appearance of natural teeth.
Anterior Crowns
To cover your anterior (front) teeth that are visible when you smile, our dentist prefers to use materials that are as natural-looking as possible. We are proud to craft permanent crowns out of ceramic, porcelain, and e.max®, a high-end material that creates the most lifelike results in dentistry.
Before and After Restoration
Same-Day Crowns The Ultimate Convenience
At Pioneer Hills Dental in Aurora, CO, we make tooth restoration faster and more convenient than ever with our state-of-the-art CEREC® same-day crown machine. With this advanced technology, Dr. Wolbaum and his staff can fabricate your personalized ceramic, porcelain, e.max, or zirconia crown in our office in under an hour.
CEREC technology is completely digital, meaning we take scans of your teeth, eliminating the need for messy impression palates. We then upload the scans to the machine, which rapidly manufactures a cap. Our dentist can then place the new crown as soon as it is finished, so you don't have to wear a temporary crown or schedule multiple appointments.

Same-Day Crowns Step-by-Step
"In under an hour, the machine will have finished milling your permanent crown."
Which should I choose? A same-day or traditional crown?
Traditional Crowns May Still Be Best for You
The benefits of same-day crowns are obvious. You can save yourself weeks of wearing a temporary crown and the inconvenience of scheduling multiple visits to our Aurora office. However, traditional crowns remain a better option for some patients.
When you choose a traditional crown, we will send your digital impressions to our partner dental lab. These labs have more materials at their disposal, so if you prefer a metal or gold crown, traditional crown treatment is right for you.

How long will a crown stay in place?
A dental crown can last over fifteen years with proper care. Taking care of your oral health, including daily brushing and flossing as well as regular dental visits, is the best way to ensure your restoration lasts as long as it can.
What if my dental crown becomes loose?
Because crowns fit tightly and are reinforced by strong dental cement, they rarely come loose. But in the event your restoration becomes dislodged, you should call and make an appointment for repairs immediately. Dr. Wolbaum can see most patients on the same day for emergency treatment to prevent damage to the crown or tooth.
How much does a crown cost?
If you have a crown installed to repair structural damage, your insurance will likely cover part of the cost. For any costs not covered by insurance, we accept financing through CareCredit®. Patients in need of a crown should remember that putting treatment off can necessitate more costly dentistry, such as dental implant placement, in the future.
Can I whiten a dental crown?
Dental crowns are not susceptible to whitening treatments, but they also will not be harmed by it. When you work with our Aurora dentist, we will match the color of your restoration to the shade of your natural teeth. If you are unhappy with the current color of your teeth, we recommend having a whitening treatment before crown installation. Can I replace my metal crown?
If you want your smile to look more natural, Dr. Wolbaum can remove your previous crown and install a ceramic or porcelain crown. Replacing restorations too often is not recommended because the tooth area can become weakened. However, switching a crown once for a natural update is okay.
