Dental Bridges

A broken or missing tooth can make daily tasks like chewing or speaking a challenge.

Dr. Terrance Wolbaum can repair your smile with a dental bridge, a set of long-lasting replacement teeth.

Find out more about how our dentistry team in Aurora, CO, can replace lost teeth and improve your quality of life with a dental bridge.

What Are Dental Bridges?

A dental bridge is a permanent fixture in your mouth that can replace one or several consecutive teeth to fill the gaps in your smile. Traditional bridges consist of artificial teeth, called pontics, which are usually porcelain, attached to a natural tooth on both sides of the gap using dental crowns. These teeth are called anchoring teeth. Since a traditional dental bridge uses your remaining teeth for support, those teeth must be free of decay and other issues. With proper treatment and care, dental bridges can last for 10 years or more.

Tooth Loss Is Common

Most middle-aged adults only have an average of 25 out of their 32 natural teeth remaining
* According to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research
We understand that missing a tooth or several teeth can be embarrassing, but it is more common than you think. Our dentist may be able to restore your smile with a dental bridge.

The Steps of Receiving a Dental Bridge

Patients usually wear a temporary bridge while the permanent bridge is created, which can take 2-3 weeks.
Patients usually wear a temporary bridge while the permanent bridge is created, which can take 2-3 weeks.

We have a thorough consultation with each patient to discuss your existing dental problems, concerns, and desired results. Dr. Wolbaum will then provide recommendations to best fit your needs.

Preparation Phase

We prepare each supporting tooth to be attached to the bridge. Our dentist removes enamel to make room for the dental crowns. Patients usually wear a temporary bridge while the permanent bridge is created, which can take 2-3 weeks.

We create impressions (3D models) of the mouth by having the patient bite down on a moldable material that hardens and mimics the layout of the mouth. This allows us to ensure the dental bridge matches your natural teeth in terms of both fit and appearance.

Checking the Fit

We replace the temporary bridge with your permanent dental bridge. We check the new bridge for a proper fit before attaching it to the dental crowns.

Cementing the Bridge

Over the next several weeks, our dentist checks the bridge to make sure it fits comfortably in your mouth. We will make any necessary adjustments to earn your seal of approval before our dentist permanently cements the bridge in place.

We Partner With the Best Local Dental Lab

We work with a local lab to give you premium dental devices made in the Aurora area rather than importing products from overseas. Our local partnership also cuts down on shipping time so you can experience a quick turnaround in regard to results and dental products.

Implant-Supported Bridges

A dental implant-supported bridge uses similar materials like porcelain and zirconia for the replacement teeth, but they attach to implants instead of dental crowns. Dental implants are essentially titanium screws installed in the gums that act as the roots of a tooth. An artificial tooth, or dental crown, can be installed on the implant and then attached to the pontics for a durable and natural-feeling tooth replacement.

Unlike dentures and traditional bridges, implant-supported bridges add extra stability and support to the jawbone. An implant-supported bridge also doesn't impact the surrounding teeth as traditional bridges do.

Why Choose an Implant-Supported Bridge Over a Traditional Bridge?

Implants provide a host of oral health benefits. In addition to providing maximum stability so your restoration doesn't slip out of place while eating or speaking, implants provide bone-saving benefits. Even a single missing tooth can cause the jawbone to begin to deteriorate. Dental implants are the only restorative dental treatment that can stop the jawbone deterioration that occurs with tooth loss, preventing a sunken appearance and the need for bone grafting later in life.

When To Consider Dentures

A bridge is best for patients missing up to three consecutive teeth. If you have multiple areas of tooth loss, or if you are missing four or more teeth in a row, a partial denture may be a better fit for you. During your initial consultation, your dentist can help develop a custom treatment plan that will best fit your unique dental needs.

Paying for Your Bridge

We understand that costs sometimes prevent patients from seeking the dentistry treatments they desperately need. We don't want financial barriers to prevent you from receiving care, so we work with most insurance providers to reduce and sometimes eliminate out-of-pocket costs for our patients. For patients with out-of-pocket costs or without insurance, we offer CareCredit®, a third-party lender that offers affordable financing options.
