Staff and Dr. are caring and and don't rush me through. The practice looks nice and modern too. They've also helped me out a lot when I needed help ASAP with a problematic crown from my previous place.

What Are My Choices?

We offer many options for dentures, but whichever one you choose, Dr. Wolbaum at Pioneer Hills Dental will use high-quality dental materials like porcelain and zirconia at our Aurora dental office so your smile looks like natural teeth. He will also carefully color-match the gums to heighten the natural look of your dentures.
Denture

Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures are the type most people are familiar with. They are a removable set of teeth that simply rest on your gums. Suction or a dental adhesive is used to hold them in place. They should be cleaned daily and removed at night to give your gums a rest. These are a quick and affordable option, but because they don't stop your jawbone from weakening, they will periodically need to be adjusted, relined, or replaced as your jaw shrinks.

Implant denture

Implant-Supported Dentures

This type of denture is held in place by dental implants, small posts that are inserted into the jaw. Once the implants fuse with the bone, they securely hold an entire dental arch firmly in place. You'll never have to worry these dentures will slip or fall out. They are more expensive than traditional dentures, however, patients who want to prevent their jawbone from weakening think the cost is well worth the added expense. While implant-supported dentures are typically "fixed" in your mouth, there are also removable versions that snap onto the implants.

Partial denture

Partial Dentures

Are you struggling with teeth missing in various parts of your mouth? Partial dentures may be an option. Dr. Wolbaum can design a framework that positions artificial teeth wherever you have gaps in your smile. Partial dentures are typically held in place with clips that attach to a nearby tooth. By using quality dental materials and tooth-colored gums, partial dentures offer a discreet way to improve your smile with natural-looking teeth.

Implant crowns

Strategically Placed Implants

Are you looking to fill several gaps in your mouth but want something more secure than a partial denture? Dental implants may be the solution. Dr. Wolbaum can strategically place single implants or implant-supported dental bridges to replace each tooth that is missing. It's almost like having your natural teeth back.

Partial Dentures vs. Complete Dentures Which Is Right for Me?

Whether a patient needs partial dentures or complete dentures depends on how many teeth the patient has lost, and the health of any remaining teeth.

For someone missing most or all of their teeth along the dental arch, complete dentures may be recommended, especially if the remaining teeth are severely damaged or decayed. However, if they are missing only a few teeth, a partial denture could be the right solution.

Rest assured that Dr. Wolbaum will take your dental history and oral health into account to determine what kind of denture best suits your needs.

Which Is Better? Traditional or Implant-Supported Dentures?

Traditional dentures are a time-proven method to improve your appearance and expand the variety of foods you can eat comfortably. Unfortunately, they accelerate the bone loss in the jaw that already results from missing teeth. As the jawbone weakens and shrinks, the lower portion of your face visually "collapses." This causes your skin to sag and wrinkles to form around your mouth. In addition, the chin will jut forward, adding years to your looks.

Dental implants help avoid this concern. The implants, which act like a natural tooth's root, send signals to the jawbone that encourage new bone growth and keep your jaw strong.

How Does an Implant-Supported Denture Work?

Do You Lack the Bone Density
Required for Implants?

Have you grown frustrated with traditional dentures but have been told you lack the bone density to upgrade to implant-supported dentures? As a Fellow of the Misch Institute, Dr. Wolbaum at Pioneer Hills Dental in Aurora is highly qualified to help. In these cases, he might recommend a bone graft, which restores the bone density needed for implants.

How to Clean Your Dentures

Though your dentures aren't natural teeth, it’s still important to clean them regularly by following a simple set of steps at least once a day:

  • Remove your dentures and rinse them with lukewarm water.
  • Brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove bacteria, food particles, and plaque.
  • After brushing, rinse the dentures with warm water again.
  • If you’re going to bed, soak the dentures overnight in lukewarm water or a soaking solution.

Maintenance Tips

Properly cared-for dentures can last anywhere from 7-10 years. Here are a few tips to extend the life of yours:

  • Do not let your dentures dry out, as dryness causes them to lose shape and become brittle.
  • Do not soak your dentures in hot water. Doing so can alter the shape of the material.
  • Do not apply toothpaste or whitening products to dentures. Abrasive toothpaste can cause scratches and whitening products can discolor them.
  • If your dentures break, get in touch with your dentist. Attempting to fix broken dentures yourself can cause further damage to removable teeth.

“Highly recommend if you want a superb dentist.”
